grapplr: the League guy who fell into the Rift
If you have ever played League of Legends, even for one chaotic weekend in college, you probably already know grapplr. Matt, better known as GrappLr, spent years as a card game and League content creator, working his way from Shadowverse to Legends of Runeterra to League itself, with a channel sitting around 120K subscribers. Then Riot dropped an actual physical trading card game set in the League universe, and he did what a lot of us did: he fell in completely.
Who he is
grapplr has been streaming since 2017, blending card game strategy with a genuine educational bent. His thing was never just being good at the game. It was the challenges: self-imposed rules, weird deck constraints, and guides that actually taught you something. He also does martial arts and fitness content on the side, which is a combo you do not see every day. The third-party trackers put his YouTube at about 120 to 124 thousand subscribers across roughly two and a half thousand videos, so treat the exact number as approximate, but the footprint is real. His most watched video ever was a Runeterra charity event that pulled over 200,000 views.
What he makes now
Riftbound, mostly. His Twitch tells the story: over the last few months Riftbound has become his number one streamed category, ahead of League itself, with dozens of Riftbound streams and hundreds of hours on air. The YouTube channel is where the good stuff lives for players: full deck techs for the newest set, Riftbound Unleashed, with complete decklists pasted right into the video descriptions. Kennen, Master Yi, Diana, Teemo, Ezreal. If you are learning a new legend, he probably has a three-game set of footage showing exactly how it plays.
He also does the pack opening thing, and his "The Rarest Thing I've Ever Pulled" video is exactly what it sounds like: overnumbered and signed cards, the kind of pulls that make a whole table gasp. Plus practice showdowns against other creators like Snnuy, and chill "Talking Riftbound, TCGs, Life" streams where he just hangs out and answers questions.
Why he is worth watching
Here is the pitch for the League-curious: grapplr is the bridge. If you know what a Kennen ult feels like in a teamfight but you have never touched the card game, his channel is the friendliest on-ramp in the hobby. He speaks fluent League and he is learning Riftbound out loud, in public, with all the misplays included. For those of us already playing, his Unleashed deck guides are genuinely useful prep. Kennen is all over the online tournament results right now, and his Kennen breakdown is a solid watch before you sleeve up.
Find him at youtube.com/@grapplr and on Twitch at twitch.tv/grapplr. And if his Kennen video talks you into trying the deck, we run Riftbound every Tuesday at 7 PM, $10 entry, 16 players max. Bring the storm.
